"When you get down to the essence of Life, it's all about deciding between YES or NO!"
---- Pooja Shetty( My class teacher in Semester 3 of engineering while teaching Logic Gates in the subject DLDA)
How important is to be clear in one's head about what one wants from life? Well, its a subjective question. According to me, to be a successfull person, it is one of the most fundamental things to have or to be imbibed. Scan profiles of great leaders, entrepreneurs and you will surely find this trait as the most stark of the all. Most of us do not know what our favourite ice-cream flavour is. 'Koi bhi lele yaar, khane se matlab hai apun ko...". Agreed, but then being 'straight and clear' about anything and everything goes a long long way in making a leader out of mere mortals!
I will elucidate by giving a real life example of my friend(Identity held).
Disclaimer: Any resemblance to person, living or dead, is purely co-incidental.
During our placement hysteria in my 3rd year of engineering, everyone was just waiting impatiently to be 'placed' in some company or the other. To make LIFE safe! 'GRE/MBA baad me dekha jayega.' Nothing wrong in it. It is always good to have a fallback option on one's hand. But then there are people who are absolutely clear about their goals in life and people like these go on to become great future perosnas. Like this friend if mine. He was absolutely clear about his future plans being MBA or GRE and thus decided that it was useless for him to secure a placement. Though knowing fully well that a placement would provide him a cushion in case his plans didnt materialise, he was absoluetly clear in his aim that he wanted to do a post-grad before working. He didnt sit for placements at all!! To put things in perspective, he is a 70% guy in an academic setting where securing 60%+ is considered to be good! This is what I call clearity in life. This is learnings from real life.

This friend of yours must be a really interesting guy. I think I know him, don't you?
In all seriousness, yes clarity about what you want is important. But one must not be disheartened if he or she does not have an exact answer to this question. It is a very difficult question and most people go through their entire life without ever providing an exact answer for it. More than absolute clarity, I would say a sense of purpose is paramount. Isaac Asimov wrote a series of short stories about a group called the Black Widowers. In these stories a group of 6 members would meet, with one person bringing a guest along. The members would interrogate the guest and the first question asked would be How do you justify your existence? If one can come up with an honest answer to this question and that answer honestly satisfies oneself, then even a fuzzy reply to the original question is sufficient.
i dont know bout getting down to the essence of life... but life is always bout choices.. its bout constantly deciding between yes nd no..
your post really got me thinking.. coz as a libran.. im constantly confused.. nd well.. deciding wats right.. making the wrong decisions over and over again..probably thts why i continue to live...
being clear in the head is definitely a plus... but wat wen things dont go as you planned?
like.. i m an animator.. want to get into the industry.. CLEAR.
but im not... so im a struggling animator...
wt do i do next... UNCLEAR.
got answers buddy?
desp in need,

Well, as I also mentioned in the conversation with u, justifying ur existence is a well question unto itself. What I meant to highligh through my post was very simple: If u are somehow clear about things in your life, it helps!
@solitarywhite
Well, I do appreciate ur genuine concern. But then being clear is not exhaustive. There are many other things and factors, some beyond our control that give shape to our life. But as they say, they fall beyond the purview of our circle of control. All you can do at the most is atleast be clear as to what you want from life. trust me, sooner or latter, things would be better!
Well i thnk i kno this person there is 1 more person she is very good frnd of mine ...very soft spoken n ya always sits 1 particualar frnds of his ...neways she said she wanaa do MS n ya she never sat fr ny placement ..so u see she was straight with her goals ..thats imp if u wanna be suceess in ny field in whch ur interested
Great one Nikhil, especially as the blog mentions the contrasting personality - the confusion queen (hehe). Now I can make proper decisions whether to select Fried Rice or Scejwan Noodles in restaurants, all thanks to you man. (hehehe)
Interesting to know.
